What's the format?
The Assembly will normally meet four times and dates will be communicated ahead of the of the following academic year. The first meeting of the year will take place shortly after the elections and will set Union Priorities for the academic year. The remaining meetings will take place in the subsequent academic year.
Meetings of the Assembly will normally last between a half and a full day, and may take place at a weekend.
Additional meetings of the Assembly can be called in three ways:
- (a) By a majority decision of the Sabbatical Officers.
- (b) By 25% of Assembly Members writing to the Assembly Speaker.
- (c) By a Secure Signed petition signed by at least 200 Student Members.
Notice for the meeting will be sent out at least one week in advance to all Assembly Members and shall include the time, date, venue of the meeting, agenda, and papers.
What to expect from Assembly Meetings?
At an Assembly Meeting, you can expect discussions around all sorts of key student topics which will drive positive change for students. Members vote on proposed changes to policies and bylaws while also offering suggestions for improvements. Papers can be submitted by members and are discussed, providing a platform for diverse perspectives and initiatives.
Assembly also acts as a space where our full-time officers will share progress reports on their designated priorities and their manifestos, fostering transparency and accountability. Members can inquire about updates from the Students' Union, ensuring everyone stays informed about ongoing initiatives and organisational matters. Additionally, you may here key updates from the university administration cover various areas, highlighting priorities and key developments.
In essence, Assembly Meetings srve as dynamic forums where members actively participate in shaping the student experience, promoting dialogue, and fostering collaboration between students, university administration, and the Students' Union.
